Date: Sunday 21st September 10am - 5pm

Welcome to our Yarn Spinning class! This as an amazing opportunity for anyone who would like to learn how to spin their own yarn. Your teacher Matthew, brimming with passion and experience for wool related crafts, will go through the whole process from the raw sheep fleece through to a skein of spun yarn ready for you to craft with. In this 6 hour workshop (break for lunch) Matthew will guide you through the whole precess using a rare British Hebridean sheep fleece, paying great attention to the importance of working with local sources of wool, ending in you leaving the workshop with your own hand spun yarn. This workshop is limited to 4 students to ensure everyone gets lots of time with Matthew.

Check out Matthews YouTube video here

During that workshop Matthew will go through the following

  • a brief introduction to wool
  • preparation of the raw fleece
  • correct washing techniques to avoid felting.
  • carding techniques for the wool (process of brashing)
  • introduce you to the spinning wheel where you will start working with your carded fleece and produce your own spun yarn.

You do not need to bring anything with you except some enthusiasm to learn, card and spin!

A little about your teacher Matthew:

My name is Matthew and my journey with wool crafts started 10 years ago. Since my first steps into the world of wool, I have completely fallen in love with everything and anything related to wool crafts. My life goal is to spread the message of how simple, relaxing and mindful working with a spinning wheel can be.

In the 21st century when everything is about fast, weather fast-food, fast-work, fast-fashion… it is time to slow down a bit. Find your own "rhythm of life" just like our ancestors did. I love to teach, share and spread the message about how wonderful wool is and I look forward to welcoming you to my spinning workshop.
