Few knitting books can claim their designs were tested at minus forty, but Weichien Chan, the designer behind The Petite Knitter, knits in Yellowknife in Canada's far north, where winters routinely reach that mark. Her book Arctic Knits, the title carried here, gathers jumpers, mittens, socks and other cold-weather staples shaped by that climate, photographed against snow and northern light. The designs favour clean lines and dependable warmth over novelty, which is why the book has travelled far beyond the Arctic since publication.
