What you need to know for classes & workshops

Workshop & Class FAQ's

Everything you need to know before booking a workshop or class at Knit With Me in Richmond, London.

I'm a complete beginner — which class should I book?

Welcome! The best place to start is our Introduction to Knitting or Introduction to Crochet class, depending on which craft you'd like to learn. These are designed specifically for people who have never picked up needles or a hook before, and our teachers will guide you through everything from scratch in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Please don't book an improvers or technique-specific class as your first session — classes such as Knitting in the Round, Sock Knitting or Cables assume you already have a solid grasp of the basics, and you may find yourself lost without that foundation. Start with the beginner class first and you'll be amazed how quickly you progress!

We have helped over 400 people learn to knit or crochet since opening in 2023. You're in safe hands — our motto is progress, not perfection.

Do I need to bring anything to the workshop?

Each workshop listing clearly states what you need to bring. Most of our beginner courses provide everything you need, but some specialist workshops require specific materials or projects to be prepared in advance. Please read the booking page carefully before attending

How do I book a workshop?

All workshops can be booked directly through our website. Browse the full timetable at Workshops and Events, select your preferred class and date, and complete the checkout. You'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to know.

Can I buy a workshop as a gift?

Workshops make a wonderful gift! If you know the recipient is free on a specific workshop date, you can book that class directly and add a note at checkout letting us know it's a gift — we'll send you a card with the course details to present to them.

If you're not sure of their availability, we'd recommend purchasing a gift voucher to the value of the workshop instead. That way your recipient can choose a date that suits them when the new timetable is released.

Why do you ask for a phone number when booking?

We ask for a phone number so we can contact you quickly if anything changes with your workshop — for example if a date needs to move or if we have an important update before the class. Your number will never be used for marketing purposes.

What should I do if the class I want is sold out?

Our workshops are small by design and spaces go very quickly — so if the class you're after is fully booked, please don't be disheartened! We release our workshop timetables in waves, covering a few months at a time, so there will always be new dates coming.

The best thing you can do is sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear when a new timetable is released. We also announce new dates on Instagram so it's worth following us there too.

When we schedule repeat classes we try to vary the timings — so if a class ran as an evening session last time, we'll aim to offer the next one at a weekend, and vice versa. This means that even if a particular date didn't work for you, the next round of dates is likely to be at a different time that might suit you better.

We are also continually adding brand new workshops and classes, so even if you've already completed our beginner courses there will always be new skills and techniques to explore. Keep an eye on our Workshops and Events page for the latest additions.

Where do the workshops and classes take place?

Unless stated otherwise in the booking description, all workshops take place in our dedicated teaching space upstairs in the shop at 17 Richmond Hill, Richmond. Please note the upstairs space is accessed via a spiral staircase. If you have any mobility concerns please get in touch before booking and we will do our best to help.

Is there a minimum number of participants for a class to go ahead?

Most of our courses require a minimum number of bookings in order to run. If we haven't reached the minimum number by 4 days before the workshop date, you will be contacted and offered either an alternative date or a full refund.

Can I get a refund if I can no longer attend?

Due to the limited number of spaces on each workshop, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend. Refunds can only be offered if we are able to fill your space. We will always do our best to do so, so please don't hesitate to get in touch — the sooner you let us know the better.

Do I need any prior experience or skills?

All skill requirements are clearly listed in the course description — please read these carefully before booking. If a course has a skill prerequisite, please be aware that we won't have time to cover the basics during the session, and you may not get the most out of the class. We'd recommend completing the introductory course first if you're not sure.

How many people are in each class?

We deliberately keep our classes small so that every student receives plenty of individual attention from the teacher. Exact numbers vary by course but spaces are limited, so we recommend booking early to avoid missing out.

What if a workshop is cancelled by Knit With Me?

In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a workshop, you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another available date. We will contact you as soon as possible if this happens.

Can I transfer my booking to a different date?

Please get in touch as soon as possible if you need to change your booking date and we will do our best to help. Please be aware that as with cancellations, we can only offer a transfer or refund once we have been able to fill your original space. The sooner you let us know, the more likely we are to be able to accommodate you. Email us at connect@knitwithme.co.uk

Do you run any social knitting events?

Yes! We run a monthly Knit Social — a relaxed, informal get-together for knitters and crocheters of all levels. It's a lovely opportunity to meet fellow crafters, get help with a tricky project, or simply enjoy some knitting in good company. Our Knit Socials take place at an external venue and are open to everyone. Keep an eye on our events page and Instagram for upcoming dates.

Do you offer any online events?

Yes — from time to time we run virtual events such as online Knit-A-Longs and Zoom knit and natter sessions, designed to bring our community together wherever you are in the world. These are more social in nature than our in-person teaching workshops. Follow us on Instagram or sign up to our newsletter to hear about upcoming virtual events.
