Silk without the silkworm's sacrifice is the idea behind Tussah Tweed, the single base we carry from BC Garn, a Danish natural fibre specialist. Conventional silk production boils cocoons with the pupa still inside; tussah cocoons are gathered in the wild after the moth has flown, an approach often known as peace silk. The fibre's irregular texture spins into a matt, flecked strand that looks like tweed yet drapes like silk, suiting floaty layers and tops for warmer days. Worked on middling needles it grows quickly, and the mottled surface keeps plain stocking stitch interesting.
