Overview
We are very excited to offer 7 beautiful colour options for our kits, combining the incredible Wool Decanted vintage 23 British yarn and the stunning show stopper pattern Ivy by Ayano Tanaka. If you want a colour combo we aren't showing just get in touch!
The sample show in the photographs, and available to see in store, uses their colours Natural Grey and Bottle Green.
Their latest vintage, vintage 23, is a delicious and exquisite blend of Polwarth, Romney and Black Shetland, the softest of British yarns, which has to be knitted with and felt to be believed. It is a genuinely incredible base blend.
Knitted in the round from end to end, starting with 1x1 rib the scarf then progresses to stockinette stitch and two stranded colour work. You only work on the knit side in the round – no back and forth colour work!
The size of the scarf can be easily adjusted to your liking by adding/subtracting repeats of the main geometric central pattern charts.
Your chosen kit will include:
8 skeins of vintage 23 by Wool Decanted, 4 skeins in each of the two colours in your chosen kit, and a PDF copy of Growing Ivy knitting pattern by Ayano Tanaka.
Ayano Tanaka says about her design
“I designed this scarf imagining a scene of ivy on the wall. The transition from one pattern to the others might be like ivy growing towards the sky. When you reach the top of your scarf, the clear sky is waiting”
About vintage 23
You know the joy and sheer satisfaction of turning beautiful wool into favourite garments? Well, you’re going to love vintage 23! It’s Wool Decanted's latest yarn blend and, in keeping with the wool decanted aim to create the softest British yarns, vintage 23 is right up there on the softness scale. It’s deliciously next to skin soft!
How did they produce such a soft yarn?
They chose their fibres carefully. Starting first with the white of Falklands Polwarth with its long staple length which produces a strong, smooth, and silky yarn. It’s soft enough to be worn next to the skin. Then they added some white Romney fibre from Kent, with a long and lustrous staple, and well-defined crimp, adding a bit of depth and strength to the blend. They knew, from creating their vintage 20 yarn, that adding a small amount of coloured fleece to the white would create a uniquely coloured base. They added just a touch of black Shetland fibre to the white. Rich black Scottish Shetland locks, from the softest part of the Shetland fleece, mixed with the pure white of the Polwarth and Romney created a beautiful, natural, light heathery grey base.
What about the colours?
Dyed as blended tops, the light grey base has allowed for colour of a special richness in their 8-colour palette. You can create some great colour combinations, and the natural grey works with all of them! Wool Decanted replicated many of their existing colours and added the natural grey,
