Product Details

Antigone by De Rerum Natura is a beautiful 100% linen yarn, made from ten strands of well-twisted combed flax. It has a smooth, silky feel and a lovely, cool, refreshing handle, making it a joy to knit with in warmer weather. Knit it on fine needles for a neat, uniform fabric, or go up a size or two to let its natural drape really shine. It is ideal for mid-season jumpers, summer tops, lace cardigans, and even a crocheted shopping bag.

Antigone is crafted from flax grown in Normandy by the Terre de Lin cooperative, using traditional methods that care for the soil and produce high-quality fibre with no chemical inputs. The long fibres are wet-spun in Lithuania to produce a smooth, regular, and naturally shiny yarn, before being twisted and dyed in the Creuse region of France.

Antigone is named after the resilient heroine of Jean Anouilh's play. Do come and feel it in our West London shop.

Pattern Ideas

Here are a few patterns we love for Antigone, including a couple we have knitted here in the shop. There are many more, so if none of these is right for you, do get in touch and we will happily suggest something to suit your project.

A couple of these we have made ourselves, so do pop in and have a feel. Carol's Farnham Tee by The Knit Purl Girl, knitted in Antigone held with a thread of Holst Garn Titicaca, gets so many compliments: see the Farnham Tee in Antigone on our Instagram. She also knitted the Feldberg Sweater by This Cosy Nest in Antigone held with Titicaca: see the Feldberg Sweater in Antigone.

About De Rerum Natura

De Rerum Natura is a French yarn brand we are delighted to stock at Knit With Me. It was founded in 2012 by Solenn Couix-Loarer, who moved from a life working with seventeenth century French literature into yarn, driven by a wish for wool she could trace and feel good about. That care runs through everything the brand makes.

Their yarns are spun and dyed at a small mill in Rougnat, in central France, where the water is cleaned through a natural phyto-purification system and the dyes meet strict European REACH standards. The undyed wool comes from Mérinos d'Arles sheep raised on organic farms in Provence, some of the finest merino in Europe at around 21.5 microns, from small traditional flocks where mulesing is never practised. It is wool with a real sense of place, and you can feel that quality in every stitch.
