London Wool, this incredibly local London City Farm yarn is a blend created from the fleece of 16 different rare sheep breeds, totalling 598 fleeces, from the following London city farms – Spitalfields, Mudchute, Surrey Docks, Vauxhall, Stepney, Wellgate, Lambourne, Woodlands Farm Trust, and Battersea Zoo.
The majority of London City Farms keep sheep as part of their educational programmes, teaching children and adults about the production of meat, cheese and wool. Each year more than half a million Londoners will visit a city farm.
Sheep must be sheared for their wellbeing, but the amount of wool from each farm is too small to process commercially. A pilot project united 10 London farms, combining their wool to a sizeable amount for commercial processing and the money raised from this purchase goes towards funding the London city farms and ensuring this project continues as a bi-annual project.

Hackney Tote Bag Pattern
This medium-sized tote bag is a unique hand knit project, featuring an elegant design with a cable pattern that flows naturally from the bag’s body to form the shoulder straps. Knitted with 2 strands of the London wool, the bag showcases the fibre’s natural colouring of the sheep fleece and inherent durability. The main body uses a clover stitch pattern that creates beautiful depth through light and shadow. For added strength and stability, the bag can be lined with fabric – either coordinating printed or plain fabric. The design makes an excellent gift or personal project, combining practical functionality with the unique characteristics of heritage breed wools from London City farms.
Stepney Jumper Pattern
Crafted from London Wool, this style mixes modular-block texture, with an easy fit, relaxed weekend shape. Alternating horizontal bands of stocking stitch with subtle purled rows, matched with a fishermans style neck trim and broad, classic ribbed cuffs and hem, this sweater has a contemporary feel which will keep you warm and cosy through the winter time. The Pattern is relatively easy, using knit and Purl stitches to create the sweater in 4mm size needles, using the sports weight London Wool, a bit lighter than DK weight, 333 m per 100 gm.
Woodland Handwarmer Pattern
Perfect beginner’s project, these simple-to-knit hand warmers are a good start for your first knit project, using a plain stocking stitch for the body, with a rib pattern at the base. Slim fit for extra warmth with the finishing length just above the wrist.
