Socks to keep your whole family’s feet warm and snug. Use a special sock set of stylishly coordinated colours, or make the most of your stash and use every scrap in a kaleidoscopic patchwork of stripes, heels, toes and cuffs.

The socks are knit from the cuff down; the leg is worked in a rib and garter pattern which changes to rib across the instep. The heel flap is also in rib with a garter-stitch edge. After shaping the toe, the stitches are grafted together.

You are purchasing a printed knitting pattern, not the item itself.

Sizes: Five sizes. Actual circumference of sock after blocking: 12 (14.5: 17: 19.5: 22) cm / 4¾ (5¾: 6¾: 7¾: 8½) in. Choose a size about 10% smaller in circumference than the intended wearer’s leg or foot for the best fit.

Tension: 33 sts and 48 rounds to 10 cm / 4 in worked over stocking stitch using 2.25 mm / US 1 needles, measured after blocking.

Yarn: Fingering weight. Designed using an Ainsworth & Prin Classic Sock set (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 365 m per 100 g skein) with two contrast colours. Colour A: 73–311 m; Colour B: 19–48 m; Colour C: 8–22 m. Amount will vary according to foot length.
