Olive's Cat Beanie is a cosy, playful hat with two little cat ears, knitted with one strand of Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino and one strand of Soft Silk Mohair held together for a soft, warm fabric with a gentle halo.

The beanie is knitted in the round from the bottom up. You start with a ribbed brim and work the body in stocking stitch, then shape the two cat ears with increases and decreases. The crown is shaped for a good fit.

This kit includes the free PDF pattern and the yarn you need: choose your Heavy Merino colour and your Soft Silk Mohair colour, and we will add 1 ball of each to your basket.

Yarn: 1 ball of Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino and 1 ball of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair, in your chosen colours. One ball of each is enough for every size.

Sizes: 1 to 2 (3 to 4, 5 to 8) years, plus adult XS/S (S/M, M/L)
To fit head circumference: approx. 45 to 48 (48 to 51, 51 to 53) cm for children and 53 to 55 (55 to 57, 57 to 60) cm for adults
Gauge/Tension: 18 sts and 26 rows = 10 cm [4"] in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm [US7] needles, after blocking
Needles (not included): 3.5 mm [US4] and 4.5 mm [US7] circular needles, or the size needed to obtain gauge
Notions (not included): stitch markers, tapestry needle

Reference materials (yarn provided): Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino (125 m [137 yd] / 50 g), worsted weight, 1 ball, held together with Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair (225 m [246 yd] / 25 g), lace weight, 1 ball. The sample is knitted in Heavy Merino and Soft Silk Mohair, both in Brown Bear.

Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino is a soft, springy worsted weight merino that knits up quickly and gives cosy, well defined stitches.

Soft Silk Mohair is a light, airy blend of kid mohair and silk. Held together with Heavy Merino it adds warmth and a gentle halo without adding weight.

Knitting for Olive is a Danish family-run yarn company founded in 2015 by mother and daughter, Pernille and Caroline, with son and brother, Alexander, joining the business in 2022.
